From the President
By Warren Barrick
August's meeting in the park was, as usual, great fun. Attendance in spite of the heat and threatening clouds was very good. We enjoyed light refreshments, some flying and the usual camaraderie that these gatherings produce. Jim Myers, Gary Sorrell and Charley Swope demonstrated soaring
and the use of the winch as a launch assist and even found time to allow some of us to test our skills at "glider guiding". Thanks fellas, we were all impressed.
Among the important announcements at the meeting were the following:
The Education Committee is discussing with the Haverford Township schools the addition of R/C modeling as part of classroom curriculum or as an extracurricular activity. Joe Weizer will keep us informed.
The V.F.S.S. "vintage" modelers who participated in the Wings Field static display last year have been invited to show their wares at Pottstown/Limerick Airport's annual Breakfast Fly-in on Sunday, Sept 7th, 1997. Al Campana will have more information in this newsletter and if necessary an additional mailing. It promises to be great fun and everybody should plan to attend. Huge breakfasts will be served at a reasonable price and there will be scores of aircraft to feast your eyes upon.
Congratulations to our August solo flyers, Jim Chubb, Marc Missera and Rodney Smith have gained their wings. Abe Jones cut Jim's earthly umbilical and Simon Bush did the same for Marc and Rodney. Fly safely fellows and enjoy, we're glad to welcome you to the heavens.
The Helicopter Fun/Fly will be from 2:00-6:00 P.M. on Sept 21st. Fixed wingers can fly after 6:00 P.M. on that day.
The Fuel Committee after much data gathering has agreed to order fuel (swamp water) through our usual source but by placing case lot orders with Tris Colket at (610) 935-0416. Tris will be the club's middleman at the usual fair prices.
Congratulations to Tony Szczur the latest recipient of a V.F.S.S. Good Guy Award. Tony has been responsible for the club's liquid refreshments for some time. He has also shared his electronic expertise by maintaining the club's buddy boxes, fixing our walkie talkies and being an all around great guy. Many of us also own onboard battery systems from his company ZZ Enterprises.
Our September meeting will be at the church at 8:00 P.M. on the 9th. A speaker, Paul Kuhn, from Devcon Products will talk to us about the use of various adhesives. Show'N Tell and a raffle will follow. Make plans to attend!
BOG will meet at the field on Tuesday Sept. 16th, at 6:30 P.M.
See you at the field.

BREAKFAST FLY-IN

On Sunday, September 7, the Pottstown chapter of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assoc. (AOPA) will host it's annual Fall Breakfast Fly-in at the Pottstown-Limerick Airport. This event draws pilots and their aircraft from a wide area. This is your chance to see a large array of different private aircraft including homebuilts, older classics, bi-planes, and contemporary aircraft. These airplanes are parked according to their landing gear configuration: tail draggers in one field and trikes in another.

Officially, the Fly-In Breakfast begins at 8:00 A.M. and ends at 1:00 P.M. and will hopefully attract more than 200 aircraft. This Fly-In in very informal and you can stand right by the taxi-way while the airplanes are landing.

Attendance and parking at the Fly-In are free. The breakfast, prepared by members of the AOPA chapter is $5.00 and consists of scrambled eggs, ham, and pancakes and coffee. For children under 12 it is $3.00.

Our Club V.F.S.S. has been invited to display our scale aircraft near the breakfast area. This should give us a high visibility to the visiting pilots. This is a great opportunity for modelers and pilots to mingle and talk shop. Bring your camera and be prepared to enjoy this unique event.
Rain date is 9/14/97.
If you have any questions, please call Al Campana.
