August
Our general membership meeting for August was a big bust, a
toothache and a real drag. Sorry fellas. It was the first meeting
we had hooped to utilize speakers/entertainment from outside the
club. both offers to provide us with some expertise were
postponed by the people we hoped would come.
Maybe we can avoid this in the future.

September
Jeff Troy, a past club president and a certified R/C
modeler/expert, has agreed to headline our September meeting.
Jeff is scale columnist in Model Aviation Magazine. we will
feature Jeff with his expertise on covering and finishing
aircraft. Other members will help us with construction and set-up
tips. Lets see more guys participate also in the "Show N Tell".
Come on out and have a good time with us.
You have already by now received the broadside about V.F.S.S. at
Wings Field on Sept. 7th. We are providing scale vintage models
at their Vintage Aircraft Show to support Angel Flight. We will
report on this at the September meeting.
Thanks to Al Campana who has spent many hours coordinating this
event.
September is also going to be our Fall Fun-Fly month. Make plans
to be at the field on Sept. 28th. rain date is Sept. 29th. Food
and drink will be provided for members. our new 10 by 20 foot
canopy will also be utilized.
Our new field configuration will also be in full swing by the
time of the fun-fly.
The BOG has decided to physically limit the use of airspace to
five people at a time for basic safety reasons. We want fliers
to be able to communicate while on the flight line and enjoy
themselves with more airspace.
Instead of having 11 optional flying positions as in our present
field layout we are going to allow the 3 lanes at each end of the
field to lie fallow. Thus, the 5 central flying sites will be
utilized making it easier for pilots to communicate with one
another and hopefully intensify the flying experience and enhance
safety.

October
Ted Davey, another past president, avid modeler and a national
authority on electric flight will speak to us at our general
meeting. Ted is a columnist for Radio control Modeler magazine
and has been a long time member of the Signal Seekers. Plan to
attend this meeting also as we are sure it will be both
entertaining and informative.

B.O.G. Review
By Sam Andreas, Secretary

The August meeting of the Board of governors
was called to order by the President at 6:15 PM
at the flying field. Present were: the Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer and 11 B.O.G. members. Also in
attendance were: Ed Snead, Rom Boutin and Joe
Weiser.
Topics discussed were as follows:

1- The clubs participation in Vintage Aircraft Day at Wings
Field on September 25th. Basically anyone who wishes to
display a vintage model should arrive by 9:00 AM plane in
hand.

2- For the September general meeting the Theme will be
Covering and Trim. Jeff Troy will be the guest speaker.

3- For the August general meeting the Theme will be Electric
Aircraft. Ted Davey will be one of the guest speakers,
additional details are still being ironed out.

4- A date for the Fall Fun-Fly was decided on. it will be
held on Saturday, September 28th with a raindate of the
29th.

5- A safety issue was raised concerning how to limit the
number of aircraft flying at the same time. The Board
voted to reduce the number of flying stations to 5. This
will result in only 5 positions being cut on the field for
use as flying stations.

6- There was another safety issue discussed that of having
several individuals at the flightline along side a pilot.
It must be noted that ONLY 2 individuals are permitted at
each flying station. This can be a pilot and spotter or
pilot and instructor.

7- Member Buz Klein volunteered to drill holes along the pit
area and insert pieces of PVC pipe for umbrellas.

8- B.O.G. member George Sprenkle offered the club a Free
Internet Web site.

9-The Treasurer reported our financial status.

10-The President showed the board a letter of appreciation
from the Supervisor of Adult Literacy for the Chester
County Library System. This being in response to the
donation made on behalf of and in memory of Fred Warner.

Training Program Update
By Rom Boutin

As of the 21st of August the V.F.S.S. Instructor staff
has Soloed seven members of the Club. During August we
seen Joe Rose sporting his new wings and exercising his
privilege flying without the umbilical cord. Weird
feeling eh Joe but he said he could not have done it
without the aid of Abe Jones. Joe accomplished this feat
in 19 sessions and logged 14 1/2 hours during the period
5/1 to 8/3/96.
In addition to letting loose Joe, Instructor ABE also
is credited for the Solo of Gus Baldassano during the
month of August. Gus has been flying Gliders and started
his Power training during 1995. Stats are not available
but knowing ABE'S knowledge of Flying (full scale Pilot)
GUS was put through tough times. Another nice Job Abe and
congratulations to Joe and Gus.
On Sunday August 25th Andrew Weiland (16) earned his
wings after logging in 6 hours of airtime from 6/2 to
8/25/96. His instructor Sam Andreas said "he would have
soloed much sooner however he was away working as a camp
counselor during all of July and part of August".
Congratulations Andrew and good work Sam.

Stewart Middle School Project Update
By Jim Myers

Our model plane project at the Stewart Middle School
(Ref. last month's article) will start the week of
October 7th. That is the earliest the school could
be ready for us. I also offered the option of doing
this project with seventh graders (who we missed last
year when they were in sixth grade) and doing a similar
project next May for this year's sixth grade. Both the
school principal, Joe Howell, and the Lockheed Martin
organizer are pleased with that idea.

I will contact all V.F.S.S. members who signed up to
coordinate the specific program.
