No. 460
FROM THE PRESIDENT
By Bob Sudermann
I quit! I've had it!
This hobby is driving me crazy!
Okay, I'm back.
So far this season I have had not one but two student
aircraft completely
demolished.
The first was due to under-charged batteries (all batteries
must be fully
charged prior to each and every flying session), and
the second had a minor
problem with the sun. (You cannot see a plane if it
flies directly through
the sun in the late afternoon).
I have also had some problems with my own craft. My
new Extra 300 had an
engine out on the maiden flight, which resulted in the
removal of the
landing gear and damage to the belly pan. On the third
flight I participated
in a midair collision. (Only my second in nearly 20
years). The damage to my
plane was very minor; however, this was not the case
for the other guy. I
have had to purchase two aluminum wing tubes, one new
landing gear and 4
propellers. (Do not tell my wife, these are carbon fiber
and not quite the
same as replacing a master airscrew 10X6 plastic prop).
On top of that, the Alpha Squadron shows up (thank you
very much by the way;
you all put on a great show) with a young man by the
name of Scott who
out-performed all of us. Now I have been trying for
20 years to get better
at this, and Scott has been at this for about a year
and a half. It just is
not fair.
We had a great day for the Fun Fly on Saturday the 10th
of October. I want
to thank all those who helped make it a fantastic and
safe event. There were
just too many to name this time.
Larry Scaggs and Perry Lawrence have taken quite a few
photos and video of
both of this year's Fun Flies and are putting together
a presentation for
the October meeting. It is the first meeting back at
the Church, so remember
we start at 8:00 PM.
We will also be having the elections of the 2006-2007
Board members. The
nominees are required to attend or submit a short biography
including
qualifications to the Club Secretary Steve Kolet.
Safety Topic:
Watch the sun! For those who take advantage of the late
afternoon and early
evenings at the field, please remember that the sun
poses a major problem
and restricts the available 'Box'. Do not fly through
it. It takes a few
seconds to find the aircraft after it exits the sun
and this can be fatal to
the plane.
Remember - Fly Safe and I'll see you at the Field.

VFSS BOG MEETING
Submitted by Steve Kolet, Secretary
September 6, 2005
Members present: 15 voting members, president, and secretary
Meeting was opened at 7:00 PM by President Bob Sudermann.
OLD BUSINESS:
The fun fly planning was completed. Setup personnel
will start about 7 AM.
The food planning was completed. Impound will be headed
by Al Marcucci with
Vince Judd and Carl Sutton helping. Teardown crew will
be headed by Jim
Myers.
NEW BUSINESS:
Item 1: Club rosters are available from Larry Scaggs
via email, or a hard
copy may be requested at any club meeting.
Item 2: Larry Scaggs briefed the club financial situation.
We are
approaching the end-of-year point in a similar state
as last year.
Item 3: A discussion was held about improving our sound
testing procedure.
We will attempt to measure some of the larger, gas-powered
planes in flight
and will also try to measure sound down the axis of
the exhaust pipe(s). A
cradle will be built to measure sound from an inverted
model on the ground.
Item 4: Funeral arrangements for Bob Schaaf are pending.
Jim Bugg was very
ill on Labor Day.
Item 5: Wings Field and Limerick Field are each hosting
breakfast fly in
events, etc., this coming weekend. Due to the conflict
with our fun fly,
there was no support for sending personnel and models
to their functions.
All business was concluded and the meeting adjourned at 7:15 PM.
