FROM THE PRESIDENT
By Bob Sudermann

I would like to thank Bud Klopp for spending some of his valuable building
time describing his current project. Bud is building a full-scale,
all-metal two-seater. Although the technique he is using (all metal) is
different from our typical models, the concept is the same. I thing Bud
enjoyed sharing his photos and describing the aircraft and what he has
accomplished as much as we enjoyed hearing about it. Thanks again Bud; I
can't wait to see the finished ship.

The Fun Fly dates have been set: June 11 and September 10. Mike Estock has
agreed to coordinate the event. The only thing left to chance when Mike is
involved is the weather. If it cooperates, we will have a great time.

We have posted a new Instructors List on the bulletin board. Only those
approved pilots listed are allowed to instruct students. If you would like
to volunteer as an instructor, please let me know. Also, Thursdays will be
'Training Night.' Any student is welcome to come out and get some
additional assistance. Instructors will be available starting around 5:30
to 6:00 PM.

The field received its annual rolling early April giving us the best grass
field around. Thanks to all the guys who help maintain our facilities.

Safety Topic: An aircraft with its engine running should never be pointed
toward the pits or spectator areas.

Remember - Fly Safe and I'll see you at the field.

MEMORIAL DAY

Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day began as an occasion to honor
the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves. It was first widely
observed on May 30, 1868, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the
Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers.
During the first celebration of Decoration Day, General James Garfield made
a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, after which 5,000 participants
helped to decorate the graves of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate
soldiers buried in the cemetery.

By the late 1800s, many communities across the country had begun to
celebrate Memorial Day and, after World War I, observances also began to
honor those who had died in all of America's wars.

In 1966, the federal government declared Waterloo, New York, the official
birthplace of Memorial Day. Waterloo had first celebrated the day on May 5,
1866 and made it an annual community-wide event.

In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be celebrated
the last Monday in May. (Veterans Day, November 11, is set aside to honor
all veterans, living and dead.)

VFSS BOG MEETING
Submitted by Steve Kolet, Secretary

April 6, 2005
Members present: 18, President, Secretary.
Meeting was opened at 7:00 PM by President Bob Sudermann.

OLD BUSINESS: NONE

NEW BUSINESS:

Item 1: The club charter and insurance certificates arrived. Secretary
will mail copies of insurance certificates to VFNHP and the church.

Item 2: The budget was reviewed by Treasurer Larry Scaggs. While it
appears we are in a lower financial state than last year at this time, it
can be explained by a change in accounting methods instituted in December
2004. Membership and ending cash balance are approximately at the same
level as last year at this time of the season.

Item 3: The field is scheduled to be rolled on April 12. If the rain
continues and the field is too soggy, it will be rescheduled.
Item 4: Walt Pierzchala gave a report on porta-potty costs. A motion was
made, seconded, and passed to allow Walt to procure service for the period
of May 1 to October 31.

Item 5: A Senior's Exposition is being held in Chester County on May 17.
We have been invited to participate. Bob will research the location and
have more information so we can get a group to take a few models,
information sheets, and applications.

Item 6: Fun Fly dates are Saturday June 11 and September 10. The rain
dates are the following Sundays with a start time of 9 AM. Bob will submit
the application to VFNHP. Email notes from the 2004 events were provided to
Mike Estock and John Matt for aid in organizing the 2005 events. Vince Judd
will contact Gino Greatti to see if he will be available to fly his jet.
Steve Kolet will contact Don Szczur to see if he would be available to do a
pattern demo. Mel Jones' turbine heli is going to be painted and may be
ready for the June date. Walt will contact the Alpha Squadron to see if
they are available for the September date.

Item 7: The Flight Instructor list will be finalized and posted this month.
If you are not on the list and wish to be a club instructor, contact Bob
Sudermann.

Item 8: The BOG discussed safety at the field, reporting of incidents and
how to investigate them. The FMG has the reporting information and is
posted at the field.

Item 9: Miles will work with the Sound Committee/Field Marshals to
investigate lowering the acceptable limit in 2006. Alex Primas is still
trying to engineer a cradle to hold large aircraft and a procedure to
measure noise both upright and inverted so we have a better handle on noise.
Secretary note: It appears that a presentation on sound and its measurement
might be a good topic for a club meeting.

Item 10: The Secretary will obtain a list of member email addresses and
send copies of the current Bylaws and FMG to all members on record. The
Bylaws and FMG also are available in PDF format on the club web site thanks
to Doc Myers. Twenty hard copies will be made for members who do not have
Internet access.

All business was concluded and the meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM.

Grettings from Auckland New Zealand- came accross your site- very
interesting. I live outside a park [and near a breach that one of the first
boeing aircraft flew from as a flying school] so am interested in Park
Flyers. Making a copy of a "Blue Max" suitable for the park. Built three
full size aircraft- Corby Starlet- Steen SkyBolt and RV6a that I fly at the
moment. Recently flight tested a Lancair-360. A handfull!!

HINTS & TIPS FROM THE AMA NEWSLETTER

Storage ideas

Use your old prescription bottles to store nuts and bolts. Peel off the
label and you'll have a see through storage container to keep in the shop or
in your field box.

Save the plastic tops from spray paint cans, deodorant cans, or something
similar. Keep them on your workbench for screws or other small parts. They
also are good for holding bolts when disassembling an engine.
