VFSS Banquet
Ernie McGauley

The VFSS annual banquet was held on Tuesday night, February 8th at Camelot Caterers in Bridgeport. This event was attended by about 80 people.

The meal included salad, turkey, roast beef, veggies and desserts. The food was absolutely delicious. Club president, Walt Peirzchala MCed the festivities and distributed awards to members who have been recognized for various levels of activity that demanded attention.

Ron Strobel showed his video creation of ìGOING UP IIî. This 17 minute production was filmed at the field during the summer and at the fun fly events. It is skillfully set to music and includes several short quips from members as well as some spectacular airplanes. The tape is available to members for only $10 and is well worth the price. The presentation of awards followed.

Annual Awards for 2000

A ìSpecial recognition Awardî was given to Al Campana for his two years of work producing one of the finest newsletters in this hobby.

Al was also the proud recipient of ìThe Doug Davidson Awardî for service, dedication and devotion to this club. Al was winner of this award two years in a row. Congratulations Al.

The Technical Achievement Award went to Alex Primas for his Tiger Moth. This aircraft represents months of effort. It looks great, flies great, and is a thrill to watch as it lands with the landing gear flexing to absorb the shock. Congratulations Alex.

BooBoo Award - Charlie Swope, Charlie was first to crash in this millennium.

Gourmet Award - Jim Campana, you canít get a better hot dog anywhere.

Field Maintenance Award - Ed Moore, the grass kept growing & Ed kept mowing.

Did It Again Midairs Award - Joe Weizer, Joe is an outstanding pilot. How can this happen?

Perseverance Award - Bill Stroeble, Bill stuck it out and finally soloed.

Congratulations to all of you!

The March meeting will be devoted to "Show & Tell". Bring in your partially finished or completed airplane and tell us about it. At the March meeting members will be able to renew their club membership for the year 2000 without paying a late fee. After this meeting, all renewals will be subject to a late fee of $10.00. I strongly recommend that you either mail your renewal form or attend the March meeting and obtain your year 2000 club membership. Speaking of club membership cards - your club membership card is the only card that should be visible on the pin board when you select a pin for your transmitter. Also, take only one (1) pin at a time, there is no need to have two (2) pins out for one individual, one can fly only one plane at a time. AMA cards are not to be used to obtain a transmitter pin, no exceptions to this rule. The Chief Park Ranger assured me that its carpenter shop will repair the bulletin board at the field sometime this winter. After the board is repaired, all new club rules will be posted for everyone's information. A reminder, starting with the year 2000, all new aircraft must comply with the Club's 95 dB sound level. At the present time I'm looking for someone to handle the club's video tapes. Also, one person, or a few people to work as a group, are needed as Program Chairperson. Their responsibility will be to obtain speakers for our general meetings. With spring slowly approaching - lets think ìFlying Weatherî.

Annual WRAM Show Bus Trip

The annual bus trip to the Wram Show was another completely sold out success. Thanks again to Joe Weizer.

Many of you picked up on the typing errors in the last newsletter. This gives testimony to why the US Navy took away my pen and issued me a toolbag in 1954. They knew!
