No. 470
FROM THE PRESIDENT
By Bob Sudermann
Despite all that wind, we had a great turnout, some
good flying and a whole
lot of good food. I want to thank Vince Judd and all
those who helped
setup, takedown, cook, run the impound, and bring all
the supplies and food.
It takes a great deal of effort and coordination to
get our Fun Flies to run
smoothly. Thanks go out to Price Stevenson for donating
the sound
equipment. It made a great deal of difference being
able to hear the
commentary all along the pit area. Also, special thanks
to Warren Barrick
for doing a superb job as MC/Commentator. I know Warren
really did not want
to spend the day on the mic but he is one of those members
who are willing
to step up and help when needed.
With the wind we really did not do nearly as much flying
this time, but it
did seem to die down quite a bit when Scott Schomacker
was putting on his 3D
demonstrations. I have to tell myself the wind died
down so I won't hate
that kid so much. It really is not fair how young people
like Scott can be
so good in such a short amount of time. You don't have
to tell me, I know
he practices a lot more than I do.
Oh, we also had a club meeting three days after the
Fun Fly. Vince Judd
brought out one of his other hobbies for show and tell.
He has built, with
the help of his wife and sons, a 1970 Cougar Drag Racer.
It has been a
twenty-year project. They spend quite a few Friday
nights at the Maplegrove
drag strip running the car, and you can tell by the
way Vince talks he has
almost as much fun drag racing as he does flying model
airplanes.
Next month, on July 11th we will be having the General
Membership Meeting at
the Valley Forge National Park Welcome Center starting
at 6:30. We will all
have a chance to meet the new Superintendent and view
items currently stored
in the archives. The park will also be keeping the
gift center open for us.
Family members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Safety Topic:
In the operation of our radio control aircraft, routines
performed over and
over again are a good thing. We should slow down and
take the time to think
about what we are doing. Pre-flight Checks, Wing Bolts
tight, Tether the
aircraft prior to starting the engine, Radio Range Check,
Battery Test
between Each Flight. These are a few, and we all go
through similar items
in different sequences. Slow Down and intentionally
follow your routine.
Remember - Fly Safe and I'll see you at the Field.
