By Walt Pierzchala

As you read this newsletter we are in the year 2000. I extend best
wishes for a happy and healthy new year to all of you. As we enter the
year 2000, let's focus on how we can improve our club - new ideas? Also,
this year I'm insisting that all aircraft be sound tested. The BOG has
implemented a 95DB sound check on all new airplanes. Your cooperation will
be appreciated. The upcoming banquet in February is the club's social
event of the year. I hope to see many of you at the banquet.

From the Editor

I had never attended a BOG meeting before December 1999. I went to the
last meeting for the sole purpose of gathering information that was needed
for the first newsletter of the newyear. After sitting there during that
gathering, I feel compelled to pass on to the membership some observations
that came to my attention. First of all, these BOG members are not doing
this for a good time. They are there because they are dedicated to making
this club operate in the safest, most secure manner possible. I recognized
that they try to avoid making rules. Every topic discussed was examined for
rights of the membership and none of the BOG wanted to change or create
anything that would make the membership unhappy. The nature of the job as a
BOG member dictates that some changes need to be made. That is why we have
the BOG. It is a forgone conclusion that you cannot please all of the
members all of the time.Of the decisions that were made, I felt that the
decision regarding sound levels was long overdue. There were two other
decisions voted upon that will make your experience at the field a lot
safer. The BOG hopes that the membership can understand the reason for
those decisions. It is my opinion that the way they handled the issues was
extraordinary. I was very impressed with the entire group that attended.

WRAM Show Bus Trip
(Reservations are required)

Again this year Joe Weizer is organizing a bus trip to the WRAM Show in
White Plains, NY. This show is the largest RC hobby show on the east coast.
There are only 36 seats available on the bus. The $30 fare includes
admission to the show as well as refreshments on the bus. A fun time and
extraordinarily good company is another great advantage of this outing.

The bus will leave the Valley Forge Presbyterian Church parking lot
at:

8:30 AM on February 26th
Reservations are required

Annual VFSS Banquet
(Reservations are required)

The annual VFSS banquet will be held at Camelot Caterers, 425 Mill St.
in Bridgeport, PA on February 8th. There will be no monthly meeting in
February. Anyone planning to attend should fill in the form found in this
newsletter on page 3 and return it with a check made out to VFSS and mail
it to Walt Pierzchala NO LATER than February 2nd. All members should try to
attend since this represents a monthly meeting and you will receive a
banquet quality dinner for only $5.00. Annual awards are given at this
event and you should be there to support the recipients. Aside from all of
that, it is the most fun you will ever have at a club meeting. Banquet will
be on February 8, 2000

Passing Thoughts

Have you ever thought about a WWI Fighter plane flying at @ 90mph
trying to catch up to a speeding current day Volkswagen?

At the Last Meeting in 1999

We had a great show & tell at the December meeting. Charlie Swope
brought a framed up "NOT SO UGLY STICK". As we all know, Charlie loves
STICKS. Joe Weizer brought an aircraft that is related to a SUPER STINKER
but couldn't really tell us what it is called. As usual, his effort was a
super modeling job. Joe even drew the plan after he was inspired to create
this model. Mike Smith brought a framed up model of a Lanier 31%
Staudacher S-600. The wingspan is 96 inches, powered by a Zenoah Z-445
4.45c.i. twin cylinder engine with a 24in prop. The projected weight is
26lbs. We can't wait to see this beauty in the sky.

Another Passing Thought

In 1909 Louis Bleriot built monoplanes while the rest of the world was
building biplanes. He fitted his productions with his Gnome engine which
had the crankshaft fixed to the airframe and the propeller and cylinders
rotated about the aircraft.

Pilot Profile

The Pilot Profile Feature was one of the best new items in our
newsletter. In a club of this size, we do not all meet one another at the
field. Some of us go to the field at the same time during the week and
others attend at other times. This outline of our members is a wonderful
way of getting to know some of those that we seldom or never meet. Please
help me to continue this introduction article. Call me Ernie McGauley
and volunteer to present yourself.

BOG Review

BOG meeting was held on December 21,1999
19 members present

Banquet to be held Feb 8th at Camelot Caterers with $5.00 charge for each
person attending

Nominations for technical achievement will be made at the next club meeting
on Jan 11th.

Some of the funds from the Jim Holder Fund will be used to continue the
Delta Dart School Outreach Program.

The proposal for an outside storage shed on the field was defeated because
of the current vandalism problem.

Park patrols will be increased this year in an effort to curb the
vandalism.

A pilot may have only one frequency pin in his possession at any time. The
only document allowed in the slot on the frequency board will be a
current membership card (not your AMA) or a valid current day pass from
the park guard.

It has been determined that the hand launching of powered aircraft must be
done at the UPWIND end of the field, in full view of the flight line.

Any aircraft being sound tested beginning in the year 2000 will be required
to meet a 95db level.

Be aware that this is still 5db above the AMA standard. Noise is known to
be the single most frequent cause of clubs loosing flying sites.

Meeting adjourned at 8:50PM.
