FROM THE PRESIDENT
~~~~~~~~
By Bob Sudermann
We made it through the first BOG meeting of the year along with the first
General Membership meeting. As I mentioned last month, we are in the
process of making a few modifications to the VFSS Bylaws. The proposed
changes were presented to the Board in January. Some were accepted very
easily and others generated a great deal of discussion, which is exactly
what should happen. Through the discussions (arguments), adjustments were
made and a compromise was achieved. The BOG needs to review the final draft
at the meeting on February 1st. In the March newsletter we will present an
overview of the changes along with an explanation for the change. At the
March General Meeting (March 8, 2005) the changes will be presented to the
attending membership with a vote, following any questions, to accept the
update to the VFSS Bylaws. Please plan to attend. Just like the national
election last November, if you don't show up, you can't vote.
For those planning to attend the banquet, remember, it is on Friday,
February 4th - and there will be no general meeting on the normal club
night. Also, our guest speaker is Bob Hunt (Model Aviation editor), and
this would be a great time to show off some of our aircraft. So bring out
your best examples and let's show off what kind of work the VFSS can
accomplish.
Speaking of accomplishing some work, I would expect everyone is busy with
new projects or repairs as the winter weather presents a great opportunity
to spend time in the shop. Let's bring these out to the general meetings
and show everyone else what we are up to. It does not matter what stage you
are in - if it's a minor repair or major overhaul or a new aircraft just
started or just finished. We are all interested and could probably learn a
thing or two just seeing how and why you may have done something a certain
way. Does not matter if it's Scale, Sport, Kit Built, Scratch Built, or
even an ARF (I have to do better not slamming the ARF so much). It could be
Electric, Gas or even a Glider. Helicopters are even welcome. The Show and
Tell can be the best part of the meeting, so bring your projects.
Remember, Joe Weizer has put together the WRAM Show Bus Trip for us on
February 26th. He may still have space if you have not signed up yet.
Remember - Fly Safe and I'll see you at the field.
SPECIAL NOTICE
A special vote will take place during the March 8th General Membership
Meeting.
The Board has reviewed and approved changes to the Bylaws of the Valley
Forge Signal Seekers and will present these changes for membership approval.
We will include an overview of these changes in the March newsletter prior
to the meeting at which time they will formally be presented with a vote by
attending members.
Please plan to attend.
VFSS BOG MEETINGS
Submitted by Steve Kolet
January 4, 2004
Members present: 17 BOG, President, Secretary (non-voting), two alternates
Meeting opened at 7:00 PM by President Bob Sudermann.
OLD BUSINESS
Item 1: The 2005 budget was reviewed. It was noted that we have budgeted
to spend more than yearly club income. There is a one time expense for club
patches; we will recoup some of that over the next several years. BOG will
monitor income in late spring to see if we need to increase dues to cover
increasing expenses. It was noted that we spent less than budgeted in 2004.
Motion was made to accept the 2005 budget, seconded, and passed unopposed.
Item 2: The bylaws change draft was reviewed and discussed. Several
changes to the draft were recommended and agreed upon. Motion was made to
accept the draft and brief to club members for adoption, motion was seconded
and passed unopposed. The secretary will update the draft as agreed by the
BOG and transmit it to the president. The proposed draft will be briefed to
members at the earliest opportunity.
NEW BUSINESS
Item 1: Per the VFSS Bylaws, Section II BOG, Paragraph (E) (6) and (D) (2)
and (3), Dennis Di Bonaventura was replaced on the BOG by Larry Scaggs
(first alternate and Treasurer).
Item 2: President Sudermann announced that VFNHP has a new Superintendent.
Club officers will have the opportunity to meet him in March.
Item 3: The Club Banquet will be the February meeting.
Item 4: The secretary informed the BOG that Warren Barrick caved in and
bought an electric ARF. Congratulations Warren!
All business was concluded and the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 PM.
January 1, 2004
Members present: 16, President, Secretary
Meeting opened at 9:00 PM by President Bob Sudermann.
NEW BUSINESS
The supplemental meeting was called to address Joe Weizer's request that the
club guarantee his bus trip to the WRAM Show a maximum of $180 if he was
unable to fill the bus. This would preclude canceling the trip. A
discussion was held. A motion was made to support this on a one-time
basis. Motion was seconded and passed 15-1.
All business was concluded and meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM.
NOTES TO THE SIGNAL SEEKERS FROM THE INTERNET
Compiled by Michael Myers
E-mail from our website, copied verbatim - spelling errors and all:
I Haven't flown RC in 20 years. I still have some of my old planes built and
unbuilt. I hope to be able to get back in it after I retire too much going
on at this time. The last radio that I bought was a Milicott super 8, I
still have it and it works fine. I flew when Japanese radio's were not made.
We had proline, Ace, Kraft, and Cannon Just to name a few. If you flew a
airplane you built it or had someone else build it for you. I still buy RCM
some times and all I see is ready made planes. Very few kits.
SIncerly yours
Ken
Hey You've got a great web site. I am interested in radio controlled models
but after visiting your web site i am inspired and hope to get into it more
seriously. I've had one aircraft(it was the cheapest around, $300) but i
enjoyed the thrill of being able to control something. I dont have a lot of
money just lying around (i'm only 15) so i've always got my eye open for
anything that might fit my budget, or I was thinking of buying the gear and
making my own (which i"ve done with r/c boats). Your site has been an
inspiration and I would like to join you in the sky soon.
Dear signal seekers,
Hi this is Kenny McFadden and I am in troop 49. I am doing a merit badge
called communications, and one of the requirements is that I have to right a
letter to an organization and get information back from it. I was wondering
if you could send some information about signal seekers so that I can
complete this merit badge, also I always have been interested in model
airplanes and whenever my mom and I drive by and see those airplanes flying
we always stop and watch them. so if you could email me back with info that
would be great.
sincerely,
Kenny McFadden
