February is the social highlight of the Valley Forge Signal Seekers with the annual banquet. I'm hoping to see you all at this event.

As I write this article it is snowing outside with about 12" of snow on my sidewalk. I guess our flying days will be gone for a few weeks. In the meantime, I'm building a clipped wing cub. Talking to a few club members they are in the midst of building a model for summer use. Speaking of summer, the BOG has set the VFSS Memorial Fun Fly for June 10 and the Fall Fun Fly will be on Sept. 23.

WRAM Show Bus Trip
(Reservations are required)

Again this year Joe Weizer is organizing a bus trip to the WRAM Show in White Plains, NY. This show is the largest RC hobby show on the east coast. There are only 36 seats available on the bus. The $30 fare includes admission to the show as well as refreshments on the bus. A fun time and extraordinarily good company is another great advantage of this outing.

The bus will leave the Valley Forge Presbyterian Church parking lot at:

8:30 AM on February 26th
Reservations are required

Most of the seats have been sold so don't delay if you want to take part in this great trip.

CLUB HATS
Ed Snead

This past December, at our regular Club Meeting, I took an order for club hats. Eighteen (18) hats were ordered - 16 were paid for in advance.

During the summer, I had received orders for hats, and since a minimum of 12 hats is required before the company accepts an order, I didn't have the required quantity of requests to place the order. Of the 11 people that ordered hats during the summer, 6 paid in advance. So I placed an order with the Embroidery Company for 29 hats.

I brought the hats to the January meeting and 13 people picked up their hats including 2 people who had not paid in advance.

Now- what do I do with the remaining hats? I still have hats that people ordered last summer and have yet to pay for and pick up.

To make matters worse, there were people at this month meeting who wanted to order hats and THEY WERE AT LAST MONTH Meeting

So to simplify matters in the future, orders for hats will be taken every three months and if there is not a minimum order of 12 hats at that time, the orders will be held up until the next quarter.

Please don't ask me at the field to get you a hat. I'm very forgetful any more or I lose the scrap of paper your name is written on.

In the future, orders for Club hats will be processed in January, April, July and October. Monthly club meetings are the times and place to order hats. I enjoy doing things for the Club members, but please give me a break. If you order hats, pay for them and pick them up. In the meantime, what am I supposed to do with all of these hats?

OF INTEREST

"The Magic of Flight" is a movie now playing at the Franklin Institute Omniverse Theater until April 6th. It is 39 minutes long and explains the dynamics of flight. It contains quite a lot of footage involving the Blue Angels. This theater has a 79 foot screen and 56 speakers. For more information call (215)448-1200.

Take a dizzying ride with the Blue Angels and soar through the history, science, and technology of flying in The Magic of Flight. The film, narrated by actor Tom Selleck, captures the thrill of flying with amazing aerials of the death-defying maneuvers of the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels.

FUN FLYS 2000

The fun flys for this year will be chaired by Mike Estock. The dates are to be:
Saturday June 10 rain date Sunday June 11 September 23 rain date Sunday September 24. Last year we had large turnouts for these events and it is hoped that this year we will have even more participation by the membership. It is a great way to meet a lot of members that you may not meet at the times that you normally show up at the field. This is a very large club, how many members do you know? Aside from seeing many interesting aircraft, you will enjoy the refreshments and the camaraderie.

FYI
Futaba has closed their California repair facility.

The new repair center is now:
Futaba Service Center
1610 Interstate Drive
Champaign, Il 61822

If you have sent equipment to the California address; FEAR NOT

It will find it's way to the new facility.

AT THE JANUARY MEETING:

Mark Frankle gave a presentation of his award winning 1/4 scale T34 which appeared as a construction article in RCM 5/99 and 6/99. This aircraft has won awards at both the WRAM Show and TOP GUN Competition in Orlando and is available as an RCM plan.. The 99" 40 lb. aircraft was displayed for members examination and a video was shown featuring the T34 in flight at the Top Gun Meet. After the video, Mark answered questions from members regarding construction, plans design, flight characteristics, and detailing. The powerplant for this airplane is a four cylinder Moki engine. The level of detail on this model was mind boggling right down to the six cylinders that we saw when the cowling was open and the double rows of rivets on the airframe.

Also displayed at this meeting was an outstanding Super Skybolt constructed by Irv Smith. Irv spent four months building this beauty which was beautifully covered with Monocote. The wingspan is 57" and total weight is 9 lbs. A .91 Surpass engine powerplant was installed beneath the perfectly color matched cowling.
Beautiful job Irv.

Remember:
The only documents allowed in the frequency board are your current club membership card or a valid daytime pass from the park guard.

Your AMA card is not acceptable

Hand launched aircraft must use the last UPWIND slot on the flight line.
