From the President
By Warren Barrick

Paulette Mark, or the Valley Forge Nat'l Historical Park
staff, came to our July meeting for the second consecutive
year. All in attendance, 100 plus, were very pleased by her
presentation on provisioning the Continental Army. Thanks to
Ms. Mark for once again sharing her expertise in such an
entertaining and humorous manner. V.F.S.S. applauds you, we
are most appreciative.

The BOG at our July meeting in the park restored to the
sailplane/glider contingent the one hour that it had
rescinded at it's May meeting. Many of our Sunday A.M.
silent flyers attended the BOG meeting and were able to
persuade the BOG to restore the 2:00 P.M. D.S.T. closing time
for glider flight. If the winch is down before 2:00 P.M.
and no gliders are aloft fixed wing flight can begin before
2:00 P.M. BUT not before 1:00 P.M.

The BOG also agreed to name our first fixed wing funfly every
year in honor of "Buzz" Kleine. Our first Annual "Buzz"
Kleine Memorial Fun Fly will be in the summer of 1998. This
is a nice tribute to a real funfly person.

The BOG appointed a subcommittee of Mike Estock, Russ O'Brien
and Ed Snead to make plans to alleviate our fuel crisis as
soon as possible. They will investigate suppliers and set up
a system of ordering and distribution of fuel in case lots.
Contact them to place your orders and preference. Dee
Messina has graciously offered to warehouse the ordered fuel
at his place of business. More information will be
forthcoming, probably by a separate mailing.

Sadly, Wings Field has cancelled it's Vintage Aircraft show
for 1997. V.F.S.S. will therefore be unable to display it's
vintage models as we did last year. Al Campana is exploring
alternatives and as we make commitments you will be informed.

Our August general meeting will once again be in the Park at
6:30 P.M. We will have some refreshments and some surprises.
Come early, stay late! If weather causes any problems we'll
meet at the church at 8:00 P.M.

The BOG will not meet in August.

See you in the Park!

B.O.G. Review
By Sam Andreas, Secretary

The July meeting of the V.F.S.S. Board of Governors was
called to order at 6:15 on Tuesday, July 15th. Present
were: The President, Secretary and 15 Board members as
well as several of the clubs glider and electric fliers.
Topics discussed were as follows:

1- The President, due to the absence of the Treasurer,
advised the club's current financial status.

2- The board discussed possible ways to obtain fuel in bulk
quantities. A committee consisting of Ed Snead
Mike Estock and Russ Obrien was formed to investigate
possible alternatives.

3- Several members of the glider group addressed the board
to protest the ruling made in June in which silent flyers
had the exclusive use of the field on Sundays until 1:00
instead of 2:00 during daylight savings time.
The board voted 9 to 5 with one abstention to rescind
their earlier decision.

4- Al Campana advised that the Antique air show at Wings
field has been cancelled.

5- It was decided to hold the August general meeting at the
field.

The meeting was Adjourned at 7:25

TRAINING ACTIVITY
BY ROM BOUTIN

Last month we reported that we had SOLOED
two persons during June. During July
we SOLOED one person. JOE WEIZER has
checked out BOB MINKUS, who was a perfect
match for JOE, as he also flies single stick
transmitter. We welcome BOB to V.F.S.S .
Congratulations BOB and nice Check Out JOE
WEIZER.

SUNDAY FLYING HOURS

On Tuesday, July 15th the B.O.G. voted to restore the 2 P.M.
extension for silent flight on Sundays. This reverses the
decision made at the July B.O.G. meeting. The restoration of
the 2 P.M. extension is effective as of Sunday, July 20th.
However powered aircraft can fly after 1:00 P.M. if the
glider winch has been taken down.

AUGUST MEETING

The August General Meeting will be held at the field on
Tues, August 12th at 6:30 (Weather Permitting).
In the event of rain we'll meet at the church at 8:00
that same evening.
